It’s not my usual habit to promote media or provide reviews here, but if you read my recent posts from Genoa about Mary Magdalene then you should give this a look…

Waldemar Januszczak at his po-faced best tells how it’s all the fault of the church, and artists they sponsored, that Mary is portrayed as the original scarlet woman.  It all happened by blending the tales of multiple Mary’s within and without the bible, and fabricating details for the benefit of the pilgrim trade that was so lucrative in the middle-ages.

Watch it and you’ll also discover that the myrhh shown in the icon to the right is probably something very different.
