Fishing (Habana 21)

The poverty in Cuba is sometimes hard to detect; on the one hand people in immaculately clean clothing beg for help in getting something to eat, but then there are others whose physique suggests that their nutritional needs are well met, but ask you for soap or shampoo.  (Tip for travellers to the island – take soap!).   In any event for those who are hungry there is a solution of sorts at hand it seems.

With a five mile seawall facing onto the Gulf of Mexico, if you have the right equipment and a little skill you might find fresh protein, although I’m sure I read somewhere that angling on the Malecon was prohibited.

It didn’t seem to deter these enthusiasts though.
