The campo in yesterday’s image is the Ghetto Nuovo, a misleading name as it is actually older than the much smaller adjoining Calle del Ghetto Vecchio, and the home of the city’s Jewish community for centuries.

The peaceful scene in yesterday’s image being in stark contrast to the events that took place in this location in the months between December 1943 and the summer of ’44.

A series of plaques are displayed here now to ensure those events are not forgotten.
