A beautiful summer’s afternoon, the heat relieved by an occasional breeze, and the campo before me virtually deserted.

The clue to the location is in the buildings at the far side of the square; seven stories virtually confers skyscraper status in this city; the height required to accommodate a large population with no choice but to live here.

A further clue to the location is out of shot, behind me as I sat enjoying the calm.

A very different scene was played out here in the 20th Century, a scene that will form tomorrow’s image.
