Each day the Ponte della Paglia is crowded with tourists.
Never heard of it? What if I translate the Italian? The Bridge of Straws?
I’m not surprised for the bridge isn’t famed for its aesthetic charm, or practicality in crossing the breadth of the Canalazzo. It isn’t famed at all really, it’s appeal to the masses is purely utilitarian as it is the place where most people come to view the white limestone of the Bridge of Sighs. You’ve heard of that one I assume.
The thing is, if you’re smart and find a crossing place further up the Rio de Palazzo you can see it from the other side and with far less crowding.
Or go further and find a spot to photograph the bridge watchers, who might surprise you with a display of their own.
