There was something about the posture of these two gondoliers that almost seemed staged (it wasn’t).  They would not have looked out of place on the cover of a 1960’s knitting pattern (if they were wearing knitwear).  As it happens they could have been modelling gondolier outfits for unusually each had a different coloured sweater (one red, one blue) and boaters trimmed with matching ribbons.

In reality they had each found one of the busier bridges in the hope of finding customers passing by, but until they finished their conversation it wasn’t going to happen.
