One of the joys of the Venetian cityscape is the unpredictability of the light; channeled through alleys, glinting from the waters, broken by the covered sotoporteghi.  This means that every so often you will find a place with interesting portrait lighting.  The challenge is then to find a spot that is both unobtrusive yet with a clear view of the light that pours in from above.

This was just such an occasion.
