What is the career path of a Tour Guide in a foreign country I wonder?

It’s one of the pleasures of people watching that you can speculate as to their life history.  I know from having heard her meet and greet her clients that this woman was English and middle-class, so how did she get to be walking the pavements of Venice everyday?

Perhaps she came here as an art student or a language student, married an Italian, taught English in schools and raised a family before deciding to return to her love of art and finding a job that would allow her regular access to some of the greatest works of Renaissance Italy.  Or maybe it’s a temporary role to fund her own holiday here.

What do you think?
