In common with every tourist city Venice has its share of people who will dress up to earn a living by having their photograph taken with any tourist willing to part with a few Euros in their collection tin/hat/box.  Many will paint themselves to resemble statues, or devise outfits that incorporate some illusion, so by comparison donning a satin mask, hat and 17th century dress may seem like quite an easy option, yet to spend a day on Riva degli Schiavoni in the heat of an Italian summer’s day when wearing this garb will not be comfortable.

I did wonder whether the ladies had some form of ventilation or air conditioning beneath their crinolines.
