Baldassare Longhena was just 26 when he won the right to see his designs for a new church at Salute transformed into reality, and despite living into his early eighties there are conflicting accounts of whether the church was completed; some stating he died the year after completion, others that he should have held on for another year or two.  I wonder whether he got to see the high altar arrangement that he designed and which incorporates a Byzantine from the 12th Century, and an abundance of statuary by Josse de Corte depicting The Queen of Heaven expelling the plague.  You wouldn’t call it subtle.
