Though much of the design of a gondola is standardised, it is in the ornamentation that individual expression can be found.  Akin to the designs that once adorned car bonnets, before they were abandoned in the interests of pedestrian safety, the parecio can refer to any metal ornamentation, but it’s the gilded statuettes that catch the eye and are often photographed by tourists as a means of remembering the specific gondola that they travelled in.  This chap even supports the six tailed flag of the Republic, perhaps so he can compete with the lacquered carvings that make this vessel something special.
