Moda Turistiche – a photographer’s view (Venezia 53)

The image below is a different crop of yesterday’s reflection shot, edited to give greater emphasis to the people rather than the flood waters.

It struck me that although the people queuing are likely to represent a variety of nations and cultures, there is a homogeneity of dress; informal and comfortable is the norm when travelling these days, and globalism has produced a shorts and t-shirt style that is accepted the world over.

Given that these people are queuing to enter a Roman Catholic basilica, the informality is all the more noticeable.  Many a duomo and chiesa that I’ve visited in the past have insisted that women wear dresses below the knee and cover shoulders.  Times change it seems.
