It struck me that although the people queuing are likely to represent a variety of nations and cultures, there is a homogeneity of dress; informal and comfortable is the norm when travelling these days, and globalism has produced a shorts and t-shirt style that is accepted the world over.
Given that these people are queuing to enter a Roman Catholic basilica, the informality is all the more noticeable. Many a duomo and chiesa that I’ve visited in the past have insisted that women wear dresses below the knee and cover shoulders. Times change it seems.
